About Our Company

We are the standard in sporting event support and pioneers in the FIBA category of Whistle Detection. Our company spans more than three decades and holds multiple patents. We are consistently upgrading our technology and are currently weeks away from unveiling our newest technology, Generation 6!

Since 1994, we’ve been the trusted name in whistle detection for basketball. Under new ownership, we’re building on that legacy — with fresh leadership, our most advanced system ever, and a culture that reflects the game operations community we’ve served for decades.

Our best system yet is already on the floor.

Generation Six is our most precise whistle detection system to date — already deployed in WNBA arenas and used across the Big10 and SEC this season. Full NBA and G League deployment begins at preseason.

WBNA Arenas
Currenly deployed and in active use

Big10 + SEC
Used across both conferences this season

NBA and G League
NBA + G League rollout targeted for preseason

Our system doesn’t just listen for any whistle — it knows each referee’s specific whistle, calibrated before every game. When it hears the right sound, the clock stops. Immediately.

Calibrate
The settings are calibrated for each official and stored in our base station.

Detect
Each referee wears a dual microphone set on their collar connected to a battery-operated belt pack. When they blow their whistle, the belt pack recognizes it instantly.

Transmit
The belt pack sends a signal to our base station — a simple plug-and-play connection to the game clock and replay center. The stop is registered before anyone can react.

Stop
The clock stops the instant the whistle is blown. The timekeeper still triggers a manual stop as a safeguard — but the system has already done its job.

The right system for every level of play

We support multiple generations of our technology — each designed for the demands of its competition level. And if you're already running Gen 4, your belt packs have been revamped too.

Generation Six
Our most advanced system. Superior whistle detection through a new algorithm and revamped belt packs. Currently in WNBA arenas, Big Ten, SEC, and NBA.

Generation Five (Retired 9/27/2026)
It was used exclusively in the NBA, WNBA, and G League. Built for the precision demands of professional basketball.

Generation Four
The standard for college conferences and EuroLeague. Reliable, proven, and now running on updated firmware.

We're with you from the moment your system arrives.

30 years of getting the call right

Precision Time Systems was founded in 1994 by a referee who understood the cost of a missed timing call. The NBA and college conferences were among our first clients. That credibility has been earned one game at a time.

We design, engineer, and manufacture our technology in the United States. When Steve bought the company, he kept the team, kept the office, and kept the work local. That wasn’t an accident— it reflects how he thinks about building something worth trusting. Like most hardware companies, some components are sourced internationally. But the people who design it, build it, and stand behind it are right here.

What people are saying...

“I think it makes us all better clock officials. I've been doing it a long time, it's kind of second nature. I know it's going to stop it...”
Mike Eades
Coordinator of Men's Basketball Officiation, AAC, C-USA, SEC & SWAC
Any time you are talking about time on the clock, I think it’s important that you get it right. Whatever you have to do to make sure that you get it right, I think you need to do.”
Lorenzo Romar
Fmr Head Basketball Coach, Univ. of Washington; Asst Coach, Loyala Marymount
“The best example is that, like a golf club in a golfer's hand, the officials that use Precision Time, it becomes a part of how they do what they do,”
J.D. Collins
Retired, NCAA National Coord of Men's Basketball Officiating
